Monto surrounds: Three Moon, Moonford, Mungungo & Bancroft

The country immediately around Monto is dotted with small communities, each with its own thread of North Burnett history - best strung together as an easy scenic drive.

Three Moon

Three Moon, about 6 km south of Monto, gives the district both its name and its founding legend - the tale of three moons seen at once that the silo art now tells. The railway reached Monto via Three Moon in 1928, and a small state school ran here from 1927 to 1948. Today it's a quiet rural locality with a big place in the local story.

Moonford, Mungungo & Bancroft

The surrounding localities of Moonford, Mungungo and Bancroft each carry their own farming and rail-era history. Rather than a page each, they make more sense as stops on a single loop through the country around Monto. We'll add verified detail for each as we confirm it locally.

Driving the surrounds

Treat these as short drives from Monto and, where the roads and route are confirmed, an easy scenic loop. Check current road conditions before heading out on any unsealed sections.
