Coominglah State Forest & Hurdle Gully Lookout

North of Monto, the drive up to Hurdle Gully Lookout winds through the spotted-gum country of Coominglah State Forest to a rest area with expansive views.

The scenic drive

From Monto, head north on the Burnett Highway (towards Biloela) for about 19 km, then take the signed turn to Hurdle Gully lookout onto Kington Road. The lookout is around 10.6 km off the highway, through eucalypt and spotted-gum forest - about 29 km and 40 minutes one way from town.

Hurdle Gully Lookout

The lookout opens up expansive views over the surrounding country, with a couple of picnic benches to sit and take it in. There's no water or toilets at the lookout, so bring what you need.

For 4WDs

Drivers with a four-wheel drive can continue past the lookout through Hurdle Gully Scrub, where bottle trees stand on the edge of dry rainforest. Only attempt this in suitable conditions and check the current track status.
